1. Describe Dataset
The “Describe dataset” step solicits basic information about the research project: who authored the accompanying manuscript, who funded the research, and related works.
- Adjust the dataset title if necessary. Use a long, descriptive title.
- Confirm that the list of authors is correct. Chemistry Databank (CDB) requires the ORCID for the corresponding author, which is the first author listed in the set.
- The ORCID is optional for other authors.
- Adjust the Research Domain if necessary. The Research Facility field is optional.
- Funding information appears in section 4. The section appears blank if there are no funders listed in the manuscript submission system.
- Enter at least 3 unique subject keywords to describe the data. Add words one-at-a-time by typing the word and clicking the drop-down field below it (circled in blue), then proceeding to the next word.

- Enter any relevant pre-prints or related datasets in the related works section. Delete the row using the trash icon if this dataset has no related work.

2. README file
Please include a README file to help others use and understand your dataset. Here is an example.
- Ensure the file is named 'README.md' (in all caps)
- Use markdown format for the file. You will need to use a text editor that supports the markdown format.

3. Upload files
- Upload the primary research data files, the data obtained firsthand from the analytic instruments used during the research. Click on the “choose files” box to upload files from your computer.
- Upload any file type, including files without extensions.
- .zip packages are encouraged for datasets containing a folder structure
- Individual files are limited to 250MB and Datasets to 5GB.
- Please deposit .cif files to the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre.
- If uploading Primary NMR Data files, please click the link for tailored instructions.
- See ACS Research Data Guidelines for recommendations on other data types.
- Click the checkbox to agree that your research data does not contain personally identifiable information.
4. Review and Submit
Review all of the data. Click the “back to previous step button” at the bottom of the form to make any changes.
- Agree to the terms of service
- Note the data licensing terms: CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0 1.0) Public Domain Dedication. If you have feedback on this waiver requirement you can email chemistrydatabank@acs.org
